First we went to Mount Snow and skiing from about 10 until 2:30. I personally would have liked to ski longer but the problem is that my brother got really tired from skiing and my parents wanted to go check in to the hotel so we left and went to the hotel. The first day of skiing was pretty cold, and the conditions weren’t so great mostly because the mountain was so crowded. It was overcast the whole day, which I don’t like because you can’t see the terrain very well and then you hit a pile of powder you weren’t expecting. My parents and brother got new skis, but I was skiing on my same old ones. Not bad, but they could use a waxing. At Mt. Snow I also spotted the Onthancs, the McDowel kids, and Eric Lanza.

Then we went to the hotel. As I described to you, it was less than I expected. We had a loft room, which was kind of cramped. We had to get a portable heater because the heat was broken, and there was no TV in the room. There was a pool and common room two flights of stairs down. The pool was really interesting, because it’s walls were the walls on three sides. It was kind of small and shallow, so I didn’t go in it. Good if you want to relax I guess, but no good for laps. The TV area of the common room had a smallish TV with a sattelite hookup. There was a nook with a bunch of board games. Also a Windows 98 computer connected wirelessly to the internet. I could get on on my palm from our room, but fate would have it we left the laptop at home.

So I played three games of Scrabble to amuse myself. My family needs to learn how to descramble words, they’re not too challenging anymore. My dad almost beat me, but I dropped mix-pi-ax with the X on a triple for about 56 points. I kept getting lots of vowels or not enough vowels, which made for a really congested board when I played with Chris. I should take photos of Scrabble boards when we’re done…

Also at the hotel was a family that was bilingual. They would switch back and forth from English and Spanish in conversations. It was actually really cool to listen to. I could understand most of what they were saying, especially the little girl who spoke simply. They were playing Boggle, a game that’s probably much easier with 2x as many words to choose from.

The White House Inn got extremely rave reviews from the NYT and Vanity Fair. NYT voted it one of the top ten most romantic places in New England. I guess if you’re on your honeymoon you don’t really mind if there’s no TV. They also offer sledding and cross country skiing, two options we did not persue.

Day two of skiing was better than day 1. Me and my dad split from my mom and my brother, who was on ski blades. We went down corinthia, then to the Sunbrook area, which was so crowded we cut straight to the North Face, then we went back to the main mountain and met up with my mom and brother. They were tired and done for the day, so we packed up and left. Only about 3.5 hours of skiing. I have to go up with friends or on a trip or something, it’s rediculous. I can do more skiing before lunch than I did both of these two days.
