I’m still in Hawaii

Yesterday, we drove to Lahaina, where there are lots of shops. There was a Coldstone there. For some reason, I had never heard of Coldstone until it went into Evergreen, but now I see it literally everywhere. There was a 14 year old girl working there, which I guess is legal here. Then me and Chris each got a shirt at Quiksiliver (is there a C?) which is kind of funny because approximately all the clothes I own are from there, despite being entirely outside of their target demographic of boarder/skater. The shirt doesn’t say Maui on it at all, but it heavily implied by the flowery surfing scene on the back. There was also a Bubba Gump’s restaurant, with a shrimp suited guy standing outside and a little ping pong table (right next to a busy road).
On the way back, we took our rented snorkel gear and stopped at a beach and went snorkling. The coral was right there, as the water was quite shallow, and you could see all the fishes swimming around and it was quite exciting. My mom is quite the daredevil, and swam out much farther than the rest of us. I’m always paranoid something is going to happen, so I don’t find snorkling extremely amusing. There were a lot of fish and we had no underwater camera (despite me saying IN the diveshop that we should buy one of the cameras they had right there. alas). It was still really cool. The wetsuit tops that I convinced my family to rent were clutch, despite the warm water. They were extra floaty and kept you warmer.
Today we went snorkling some more at a different spot. Again, my mom went ridiculous far while the rest of us hung back and were more sane. We were hoping to see turtles here, but all we saw were more fish and a spotted moray eel. Then we came back and took all our gear off, and a turtle was right there along the shore! We grabbed our masks and ran down to look. It was so cool, the turtle was like 3 or 4 feet long in really shallow water. Sweeeet.
Then we drove down the coast more, and got on this really narrow windy road along all these private houses. We found an outlet to a public beach, which was the coolest place in the world There was all this volcanic rock where the water hit and then went through these two channels to the beach. It was so picturesque, I would love to own a house next to it it was just so sweet. It’d suck for swimming, but the photos were incredible. I guess Harak changed the English project, so my photos aren’t useful for that now, but they still look wicked sweet. When I get back I’ll make a highlight page for you all.
Then we came back and went to go swimming, when we ran into the woman my mom had been talking to because her kid + kid’s spouse work at tech companies. Fortuitously, they were there at the pool. Kerah and Kyle work at Google and Financial Engines, respectively. It was quite interesting talking to them about their jobs and what schools people who work with them went to and what majors people have. It’s a lot of CS majors, especially from Stanford (where the Google founders went) and MIT and such. There’s also a bunch of math majors. She wasn’t a computer major at all, but she got into UI design and worked on Google News. It was interesting because I had just read an article about a guy who works at eBay and does User Interface work there. They were trying to remember what other schools people who work with them went to, but it was all pretty much Ivy League stuff. I’ve had an awful lot of college/career advice, considering this is a vacation. First the photographer, then talking with Doung about colleges, then talking with Kerah about colleges/careers.
In terms of Deception: there were more slight bugs, backtrack a little if you’re stuck and you didn’t used to be.

“i’m not sure if working at google would be cool…”
I’m not sure I want to be either, but working at Google would surely be cool.
Rip the whole image from the poster. Seriously. It creates brand identity.

There is no “c” in Quiksilver.
I also noticed that you finally spelled “ridiculous” correctly. Bravo.

What is this “Colby didn’t get into NHS” stuff I hear?

They decided that I was too cool to be in their society, and suggested that I form a more exclusive organization.

you totally should.

I’ll call it “International Honor Society.” Do you want to join? Just submit a short essay (10-20 words) telling why you would be a good candidate for the organization. Staff members will review your coolness, your ability to speak mormon, your character, and other miscellaneous information to decide whether you will be accepted into the society. Email your essays here for review. Thank you for your participation.

P.S.: If your first name is a barnyard animal, then don’t bother applying. I told you it was exclusive.

Here’s my application essay:
There once was a man from the S-Dubb
Who was co-founder of the chess club
He wrote a sweet NHS essay
And made a video for Veteran’s Day
But the administration decided to snub
Is that twenty words?

Wow, I can’t believe they won’t let sleeping dogs lie. I’ll have to get to work on the IHS t-shirts.

Comment by cobalt — Apr 22 05 | 11:39 pm
