How To: Be Sick

Mar 17 06 | 9:55 pm

There isn’t much that is as unfun as being ill. Whether you have some sort of stomach bug, a fever, a head cold, or bird flu, it just isn’t fun. However, you don’t have to let the sickness completely ruin your day.

There’s lots of exciting things you can do while sick. Since I have had a fever for the last four days, I have had plenty of time to experiment, and here are my top choices:

Things to do when you’re sick:

  • Watch TV: There’s lots of great programming on during the day that I bet you never knew about. Regis and Kelly, Wheel of Fortune, and Oxiclean Ads are just some of the stimulating television waiting to be discovered. And if you can’t find anything you like, you can always leave the TV Guide channel looping over and over and over…
  • Sleep: This one is a double whammy. Not only does it help pass the time, it helps make you less sick. I recommend sleeping somewhere comfortable, like on a couch or your bed. Treadmills and tables can work too, but they are not as ideal. Don’t forget a pillow, or else you may have some trouble falling asleep. While you are sick is one of the only times you can sleep and people can’t call you lazy. It’s a win-win.
  • Mental Tic Tac Toe: One time I was bored in band class and worked out everyone “smart” ending combination to the game of tic tac toe. If you’re sick, this can be a great way to help pass the time. The best part is you always get to go first!
  • Ice Sculpting: When you are sick, you are supposed to drink lots of fluids. Fluids often have ice cubes in them to keep them cold. Once you drink all the fluid, you’re left with the ice and nothing to do with it! Since you probably have a fever, you can use your higher-than-normal body heat to melt the ice into decorative shapes. The Statue of Liberty, a swan, an isodecadohedron. Whatever floats your boat!
  • Do Homework: Ha, just kidding. You already sent all your colleges your transcripts, right? You have five schools days once you get to finish everything anyway. Why stress out about a little bit of work? The teachers were probably all so dismayed over your absence that they didn’t bother teaching anything anyway. Ask your friends what the work was, and then mock them because they had to do it and you didn’t

So the next time a bunch of little clusters of nucleic acid ruin your day, just think of all the productive things you can instead!
