On Going To Boston

You will like the dual meaning of the title of this entry.
First, and most excitingly, I have been admitted to the Olin College Class of 2010! I am super excited, as it is my number one choice school! Finally, I can stop worrying about hearing from colleges; I have somewhere to go in the fall! For those of you who are still unfamiliar with Olin College, read this article by the Wall Street Journal. It does a very good job describing Olin and how their view on college education is a bit different than most schools. I get to go to college with a bunch of the coolest kids I have ever met. Boston, here I come!
Also in Boston, the Boston FIRST Regional! Pelan, Chris and I went up to the Boston Regional today to meet a bunch of people we knew and spectate. It was very cool. I talked with a few Olin students, and Chris even happened to sit next to an Olin professor. I didn’t get a chance to talk to the professor, since I was busy getting my photo taken with Steven Wozniak. Steve Wozniak is the co-founder of Apple Computer. He (and a bunch of other awesome people) was judging at the regional. Chris got him to sign our iPod, but it smudges if you rub it. I got to meet a lot more FIRST kids, and it was generally a very good time had by all. Except when the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate.
And Philly is in four days! What a month!
Congratulations! And I like your shirt.

Congratulations! Boston is just objectively the best college town.

Greg, congratulations for getting in to Olin. I am not trying to discredit you or anything, but why are you going to Olin (a college practically 98% of the country hasn’t even heard of), rather than an Ivy League school, which has the reputation. I am not trying to take any value away from Olin, which seems like a school built for intellectuals like you. Good luck at Olin…

It’s quite exciting to get to be going to a college that is brand new. If I went to somewhere that’s hundreds of years old, I’d just be going through a track that somebody has set up. By going to Olin, I get the opportunity to create that track for myself. The accessibility of the professors is second to none of any of the schools I considered, and the faculty and students are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. Also, the school has an honor code that every student signs, which creates a tremendous atmosphere of trust and community among everyone.
Oh, and did I mention it’s tutition free?
