Not Dead Yet!

Those of you who know far too much about me may remember last April when my Clie TJ-37 was so broken I only took 5 photos. I had to ship it back to Sony, one day before my warranty expired, because it wasn’t charging. They sent it back (and I got a battery replacement out of the deal, too). However, a year later, the same problem reared its ugly head. No matter how I positioned it, the darn thing would not recharge. Luckily, I was able to repair it! I took an extremely pointy object (in this case, a screw) and used it to bend all of the pins on the charger plug up about 1mm from where they were. My theory was that they have bent down and aren’t making contact, and it seems to be correct. Now when I put the plug in the Clie, it’s a little bit too tight, but the thing charges! I’m sure the pins will bend themselves back down again eventually, but I know how to fix it now. Two years and still ticking.

  1. […] So basically, my Clie TJ-37 has always been a bit sketchy when it comes to charging. Last April, I had to send it back to Sony to have it fixed, although they never told me exactly what they did except replace the battery (score!). Earlier this year, the Clie began to exhibit the same problems that had plagued it before. That time, bending some pins fixed it. However, I actually wound up snapping a pin off of the cradle plug. Whoops, probably wasn’t important anyway. […]
