More fun than rabies at a dog show.

IRI

Forty one.

I started to write an entry for today based on a timeline of what I did this weekend. I got through the first day and got bored writing it, so I knew that you guys would get bored sooner. It was going to rely on jokes like: (9:30 - Go in pool, 9:50 - Go in hot tub, 10:10 - Decide hot tube is too hot, return to pool, 10:12 - Changed my mind, hot tub is way nice). Oh well. You’ll have to settle for this instead:

Today was what might be the highest density of Class of 2010ers that will exist until August 26th. I was planning on being in Indianapolis with Ellen for the robotics offseason competition from Thursday night until Saturday evening. However, then I find out that Evan Morikawa, my roommate, was going to be in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. So today, he swung by where Ellen and I were watching the competition and we got to hang out for about 90 minutes before I had to leave to catch my flight.

My flight on the way home was crazy. I didn’t immediately check the screens, so I just leisurely went to my gate and ate some cracker jacks. Then I was going to wash my hands when I checked the screen. Ohsnap my flight was delayed 90 minutes. My connection was only a 2 hour layover in Charlotte, so I wanted to check I’d still make it. They tell me I won’t. They put me on a Delta flight that leaves at 6:45 (It’s currently 6:34) to Atlanta. They recommend I hurry. I run to the Delta check-in desk, where Delta is like “Why did they not give you a boarding pass?! Take this and run to terminal B!” So I ran. It was 6:43 at this point. I had to go through security again. Nice people let me cut them to get to the ID checker, who tells me I was selected for additional screening! Luckily, this meant I got to cut extra lines, so I got through that and then ran to my gate. It was now 6:50. Notice a problem there? My flight hadn’t left yet, so they let me on and I only got home an hour later than I planned. Running in airports is pretty lame. Good thing I didn’t check any bags.

On the plane ride there I sat next to a woman named Sarah. She is an 80 year old portrait artist who was on her way to a family reunion where she was going to meet some great-grandkids she had never met before. That’s pretty awesome. Then on the way back I sat next to a woman who had a son who’s a junior this year. He’s looking at colleges, and I told her all about Olin. It was a pretty good way to pass the two hours.

Also, IRI in general was pretty awesome. While Ellen doesn’t have the slightest clue what a comfortable room temperature is (72 is not cold enough), hanging out was pretty awesome. The competition was amazing too. The semifinal matches were so intense, and the underdog team pulled through. It was perhaps some of the best play all year. I was floored.

  1. […] Two weeks ago, I met my roommate next year at Olin College, Evan, in Indianapolis in a huge coincidence. He is from San Diegoish, and attended a High School called High Tech High. One of the projects he made was a golf glove wired up with buttons so that, like striking chords on a piano, you can strike out characters for a computer. Add bluetooth and a cellphone, and you have a pretty sweet combination. […]
