A Deft Move

or, “In which I play directly into Sony’s hands”

I went to the movies tonite with the intent to see Pirates of the Carribean 2: Disney Makes a Ton of Money. Instead, some random dude asks me if I want to see a new Will Ferrel comedy. It was free. Why not? I had never heard of it, but it is is called Talladega Nights.

Why would Sony do this you ask? Technorati search terms: Buckland Hills Movie Theater Showcase Cinema. Hi Sony! You might read this, because I can’t imagine you ignore the blogosphere with your little marketing efforts. I’m on to you. I know that this little stunt was so we will all go tell our friends about the funny movie we saw so that when it comes out on August 4th it will have a higher grossing opening weekend. You just wanted to start off a word of mouth publicity machine! Oh you sneaky little marketing execs.

Well I won’t fall for it. I’m not going to tell a single person how funny and entertaining Talladega Nights was. I won’t mention that despite the lack of the usual group of actors, this Will Ferrel movie is funny. I won’t mention that even though it’s about NASCAR it’s not super boring. I won’t even tell anyone that the ending is about the funniest reason I have ever seen anyone walk out of a theater in disgust because of.

So I guess it just sucks for you Sony, eh? If my friends only see one movie staring Will Ferrel about racing this summer, it probably won’t be yours!

Speaking of which, if you want to repair my Clie again, just let me know. The backlight broke.

  2. Free? That’s funny, because when I went to the theatre last night, Sony was charging $500 for nosebleeds, and $600 for the good seats.
