Like a fox.

Dear South Windsor,

It’s been good. You’ve skinned a few of my elbows, broken a few of my sleds, but overall, it’s been good.

I liked the autumns with their piles of leaves. Every year the piles seemed to get smaller; maybe that’s something you can work on. The winters brought some pretty sweet sledding on Sand Hill. Spring was good for nothing, except my birthday is in it so I don’t mind. Summer brought days at the swim club, and lots of exciting times.

You have some pretty good schools. The playscapes have gone downhill as they have become more plastic and metal; that old wooden playscape at Eli Terry was amazing. SWEPT was pretty awesome until you cut it, and I have to say the robotics team has been pretty sweet. You have some amazing teachers, but I think you should be a bit more open to pushing some boundaries. Would it really kill you to let kids have a bit more personal responsibility? And try to enforce the loitering rule at least a little bit this year, even if just to create the illusion that you care.

My favorite has to be the people. People probably choose to live in South Windsor for the combination of being near lots of workplaces, shopping places, and a pretty solid school system, but once they’re here I’m pretty sure they choose to stay for the combination of moving being a huge hassle and the wicked cool people. You’ve been good to me the last 18 years.

Stay classy, South Windsor.
