About Me

Having set up two more Wordpress blogs since this one, I have discovered a bunch of stuff I did wrong with this one. I think I’m going to tidy it up and fix the 404 errors and lack of search and archive issues since I don’t want to start my packets due at midnight yet, and I really don’t have any significant long term projects to work on.

A while ago, Ellen was working on her bio for the Olin College student blog. Simultaneously, our intro business profs asked us to submit a short bio for the class website. Realizing that I did not have a short bio of myself anywhere, I decided to write one. Not any one, mind you, a really good one. Inspired by other people’s bios and the ones you tend to see in high school play programs, I knew that if this bio wasn’t good enough to instantly capture my audience’s attention and make them want to read the next word and the next word until there were no words left to read, that I would have disappointed everyone who ever has used a drop down box to select an occupation of “Student”.

So as I tidy up my blog on the back end, read about me

The world didn’t ask for Greg Marra. Skinned knees, sprained ankles, chipped teeth; it did almost everything it could to stop him. But with training wheels, band-aids, and swimmies, he persevered. Elementary School taught him how to play nice at recess, Middle School the value of good friends, and High School the importance of being earnest. Luckily, thirteen years of public school wasn’t enough to turn him off from learning, and he is currently a student at Olin College where he has a 0.0 GPA.

Through time, Greg’s interests have shifted. First it was trains, then Power Rangers, and ultimately foxes. He goes to Cape Cod every year, where he defiantly tries to teach the ocean who is boss on his boogie board. That works out better sometimes than others. He is fascinated by communication and the Internet. Being a gigantic math geek, his website is twoplustwoequalsfive.com. He has been featured in the pages of such prestigeous publications as the South Windsor High School Southwinds and Cosmo Girl. Unsatisfied with the lack of clubs with names that were recursive acronyms, backronyms, or whose focus was Dance Dance Revolution, he helped create DISCO (DISCO Is a Sweet Club at Olin), Olin College’s DDR club. When not taking photos that can be fixed in Photoshop later anyways or eating vanilla/chocolate twist soft serve ice cream, Greg likes to read the Internet (usually he gets through the whole thing once or a twice a week, but it’s the sort of thing where you find you new layers of meaning each time).

Usually, Greg is carrying at least two cameras, some sort of key, and enough cash for an emergency chocolate & peanut butter milkshake. Occasionally, he is carrying his dog, Bandit. A few times, he carried around a bunch of joysticks since he got to drive on Einstein at the FIRST Championship. Once, he was carrying a name tag that said “Isadore” because he picked the patron saint of telecommunications for his confirmation name. He has never carried a game of Scrabble against his Uncle Rich, because that man could spell “upheave” with nothing but three E’s and an R.

Ultimately, you better watch out, because in a fight between Jack Bauer and Greg Marra, Greg Marra would unplug the TV every time.
