Mafia!

Mafia Hardcoreness

So Olin College’s Student Activities Committee is in the middle of the annual game of Mafia. For the uninitiated, Mafia (or Assassins) is a game where players have squirt guns and try to “kill” other players who are assigned to them as targets. In Olin’s version, you have a mafia “family” with a “don.” If the don is killed, your whole family is done, but individuals can be killed off as well. However, if an impartial witness is present at the killing, it doesn’t count.

The team targetting mine is being extremely hardcore about it. Earlier in the day yesterday, they came into my room and unlatched my window. Then, at 4:30am, they had a ladder outside with two people, and someone guarding the door to the hallway, and proceeded to reach through the window to squirt us. Luckily, we had anticipated this. We had an impartial witness stay in the room, and set up a USB webcam with an alarm to detect motion in the hallway. Both the impartial witness and my roomate were shot, but none of the kills counted. Phew!

Then tonight, we set up the greatest kill ever. I arrived to the student government meeting about 30 minutes before it ended, and scouted out the room for my target. Ellen was also in the meeting, but didn’t know I was coming. When the meeting got out, my target stayed back with another guy, and I got Ellen and told her to ask them to escort her back. I hid on the 3rd to 2nd floor stairs, and they were going to go from 2nd to 1st. I had a tiny little viewing angle, but was able to see 3 of the steps on the way down well enough to shoot. I waited for them to leave for about 20 minutes, then shot my target and ran up the stairs to the elevator. There was a ruling where even if there are witnesses, if they have no idea who the shooter was, it still counts. All that camping was worth it.

So hopefully my team will get a new assignment now, and our remaining living members will be able to keep playing. Half the teams are already out, and the game is heating up.
