So what I’ve been working on for the last two months or so is an online system for archiving and web-streaming FIRST Robotics match videos. A group called SOAP had coordinated and archived them in the past, but their naked directory trees left much to be desired. Tom suggested to me that we do something better, and on a whim I spent four hours throwing together a system that worked. A bit more coding reduced the amount of manual SQL insertion I had to do, and the system was essentially ready to rock.

I’ve added some improvements to the user interface since then. Essentially being able to search by team and watch videos online makes our system unique in what it does. We’re getting hundreds of hits per day, and pushing out over ten gigs of video a day. We have over 1500 videos in the system, and things are going quite well. We got a dedicated server donated by HostRocket (thanks!), so we can handle the amount of traffic we’re getting.
