Best. Cake. Ever.

Last week it was Ellen’s grandmother’s 77th birthday. To celebrate, Ellen, Ellen’s aunt Jennie, and I crafted one of the coolest birthday cakes ever.
They had a cake pan that was a bunch of mini cakes shaped like train cars. We purchased nine boxes of cake mix (Yellow, Rainbow Chip, Cherry Chip, Butter Pecan, Banana, Strawberry, Devil’s Food, Triple Chocolate, and Spice), and made half of each box. This gave us enough cake mix to make 18 train cars, 6 “bunt” cakes, and a loaf of Butter Pecan. We made a scene where the train was weaving through the mountains, with some cars fallen off the tracks, a volcano, the north pole, and a train station (station #77, appropriately). The total time baking and decorating was around 8 hours, and the resulting cake was seriously awesome. Check out the photos:
Dear Greg,
I just thought you should know that I was disappointed that the photos don’t use light box.
